Comparison survey 2/8/25: Thought it was about time to do one just to see where we are. We only use Waitrose online as they have the biggest organic range, though I know they are one of the more expensive ones. Even then there are three items that I have had to compare with their non organic price as organic is not available. The Waitrose prices are in bold and their non-organic products are marked with an asterisk:

For over 28 years we have been certified organic/biodynamic with the Biodynamic Agricultural Association (BDAA) and below are our certifictates for packing, production and their schedules. You can only claim that your produce is organic and use the word organic if you are certified by one of the organic bodies. This involves lots of record keeping and understanding the regulations, which in turn involves extra costs. You can see what box schemes and other organisations are organic by visiting the website www.bioc.info

Jobs for 2024 and beyond!

Full time growers / general assistants: To help with all aspects growing and running of the box scheme 25k/pa. email [email protected] for a job description with application form and include a covering letter.

Head grower: We've never really had a head grower before, but it is now time for myself to take more of a back seat, so that I can focus on other parts of the business. The farm covers 120acres over two sites and we grow crops on about 30 acres, including 5000m2 polytunnels. We also have pigs, sheep and alpacas. We deliver over 1600 boxes a week and supply other box schemes, retail outlets and our own farm shop. We have a great talented team, but think we would benefit from someone that has good agricultural experience. We have our established ways of working but we are always open to new methods and enjoy experimentation. Most of our field operations are mechanised and we have a wide range of tractor mounted implements. Harvest work is machine assisted but largely done by hand.
This is a great opportunity to join Scotland’s largest box scheme and will suit someone with a wide range of practical skills who is excited by the prospect and challenges of field-scale organic production.
Normal working hours are 8am to 5pm
Some weekend work will be required occasionally.
Salary depending on experience.
Essential qualities and experience are:
• Ability to work as part of a team, but also to lead the team and think ahead with tasks.

• An ability to adapt to established growing and harvest methods.
• Supervising colleagues in the field to ensure field or harvest work is carried out efficiently and to the re-quired standard.
• Tractor driving and routine maintenance
Desirable experience:

Below is our latest comparison made on 20/11/23 with Waitrose online. It shows that our standard £14.60 veg box would cost you around 70% extra if getting the same box delivered from Waitrose. (They actually have a minimum order for delivery of £40)
